Monday's with Meaning with Rabbi Zelony

    Monday, Aug 4th 10:30a to 11:30a
We are excited to resume Mondays with Meaning class as of Monday, August 4 at 10:30 am. The class will be hybrid – both in person and on Zoom as we have done in the past. We are very delighted to introduce Rabbi Elana Zelony as teacher of the class. Rabbi Zelony is known as a wonderful teacher and her class will lead into the High Holidays. The class is titled: Thugs, Priests and Ugly Ones: Talmud Tales of Tshuva. If tshuva were easy, the Talmud wouldn't tell so many stories about people struggling with it. Learn from some less than perfect role models about facing our flaws and making amends.

    CBJ Jewish Book Group (Zoom)
    Friday, Aug 15th 12:00p to 1:00p
In 1496, Jews living in Portugal were forced to convert to Christianity. Many of these New Christians persevered in their Jewish prayers and rituals in secret and at great risk. One such secret Jew, Berekiah Zarco, searches, in the crucible of the raging pogrom, for the killer of his beloved uncle Abraham, a renowned kabbalist and manuscript illuminator, discovered murdered in a hidden synagogue. Email David Steffen to get the Zoom link for this meeting.

Sacred Song Circle with Cantor Barbara
    Shabbat, Aug 16th 1:30p to 2:30p
Join Cantor Barbara for an hour of singing that connects us to the sacred. Songs from Jewish and other sources, wordless melodies-niggunim, chant, and prayers. Music helps connect us to something larger than ourselves. Voices raised in song blend our souls and help create a sense of belonging that can be transcendent. One reason we sing our prayers is that melodies and music have the power to go beyond words in Hebrew or English, to touch us emotionally, physically, spiritually. Bring your voice, your presence, and nourish your neshama.
