Learn about the unique history, culture, and music of the Abayudaya Jewish community of Eastern Uganda, from Rabbi Gershom Sizomu, their chief rabbi and worthy ambassador. A charismatic leader and accomplished musician, he will lead the Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat, and also give the sermon at Shabbat services. Rabbi Sizomu’s visit to CBJ is not to be missed!
Rabbi Sizomu has led the Jewish community of Eastern Uganda since 2008, when he graduated from the Ziegler School at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles. In 2016, he was elected to the Ugandan parliament, the first African Jew to do so. He is an ambassador for African Jews, and visits the US annually. Rabbi Sizomu has previously visited the Bay Area, lecturing at USF among other institutions, and it is an honor to host him at CBJ.
