High Holidays - Food Drive

Bringing Hope and Nourishment to Those in Need

One purpose of our fast is to create empathy with those who suffer from hunger and food insecurity. As part of our commitment to Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and embodying the spirit of compassion and generosity during the High Holidays, we are holding our annual High Holiday food drive. Please bring the equivalent of what you would have eaten during the day (and a little bit more) and donate it to our food drive.

How to Participate:

Participating in the High Holidays Food Drive is easy and meaningful. Here's how you can get involved:

  • Bring Nonperishable Food Items: During the High Holiday services or when visiting the synagogue, we encourage everyone to bring nonperishable food items. These can include canned goods, rice, pasta, dried beans, cereals, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, and other non-expiring food items.
  • Drop-off Points: Look for clearly marked barrels placed around the synagogue. Congregants and visitors can place their food donations in these barrels at any time during the High Holidays.
  • Community Involvement: Encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to participate in this important initiative. Together, we can maximize our impact and extend a helping hand to as many people as possible.

Types of Donations:

While all nonperishable food items are welcome, the following are some examples of highly sought-after items that can make a significant difference:

  • Canned proteins: Tuna, chicken, beans, and soups with meat
  • Canned vegetables and fruits
  • Pasta and rice
  • Cereal and oatmeal
  • Peanut butter and other nut butters
  • Baby food and formula
  • Hygiene products: toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.

Impact:

Your generous donations will be collected, organized, and delivered to local partners dedicated to addressing food insecurity. By participating in the food drive, you become a vital part of the effort to combat hunger and ensure that everyone in our community has access to nutritious meals during challenging times.

Let's Make a Difference Together:

Thank you for your participation and for making a positive impact in the lives of others. Your support is a testament to the strength of our community and our commitment to making the world a better place.
