Must-Know Passover Hebrew Terms with Rhonna Rogol
Wednesday, March 8, 2023 • 15 Adar 5783
6:45 PM - 8:15 PMDuring this session we will explore the meaning and derivations of some of the most common (and some not so common!) Passover words and phrases. We will try to enrich our Passover experience and our Seders through Hebrew expressions from the Haggadah and beyond. It’s always fun to examine the role of the Hebrew shoresh (root) in word origins and connections, -e.g., straddling the linguistic lines between “chametz” and “matzah,” between “kiddush” and “kadesh,” and between "slavery" and plain old "work". Not to mention some unexpected foreign language influences. Investigate the real story behind the holiday’s Hebrew and English names and find out if there is a Hebrew word for “Pyramid.” No prior knowledge of Hebrew or even the alphabet is necessary. The only pre-requisites are a love of learning new things and an inquisitive mind.
