Two classes done on Zoom with Dr. Dolores Gallagher – a renowned expert in caregiving. These classes are an introduction to this complicated and difficult issue that many in our community face.  Please note, the classes are not meant to be therapy – but information and connection.

Class I:  Wednesday August 20 – 7:00 – 8:30 PM

What do we mean by “Caregiving for a person with significant memory loss”? How does it affect us? What community-based resources are there for assistance?

Class 2:  Wednesday September 10 – 7:00 – 8:30 PM

Evidence-based programs to reduce caregivers’ distress. How do we manage stress? How do we respond effectively to challenging problems?

If there is interest, following the classes, we will create a small, interactive group to learn more about this topic.

Dr. Gallagher specializes in treatment of late-life depression and in working with persons with neurocognitive disorders (such dementia) and their family caregivers/ care partners.  She has worked at the Geropsychiatry outpatient clinic at Stanford and also leads psychoeducational workshops.as part of the Neuroscience Center's community educational programs.  She is a board-certified specialist in Geropsychology (psychology of older adults) and is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been in practice for over 40 years.  She is known as a masterful mentor.

Dr. Gallagher has decades of experience with these groups and is famous for her research on making them effective.   As a  researcher, she is noted for her empirical studies on the efficacy of psychoeducational interventions to reduce stress and improve the psychological status of family caregivers of older adults with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. In addition, she has worked with colleagues to create an edited "primer" on geropsychology, which was published in 2021.
