Antisemitism is on the rise. In September 2022, ABC News reported that antisemitic crimes in California are at an all-time high, up 32% since 2020 – the greatest percentage of increase in such crimes in the state’s history. In the same timeframe, a survey commissioned by the JCRC reported that 32% of the respondents experienced or witnessed antisemitism in the last 3 years.
 
Despite being one of the oldest forms of hatred, antisemitism is widely misunderstood, neglected and often missed.  On March 26th, come hear and learn from Dr. Naya Lekht, a scholar on contemporary antisemitism who works with the Jewish community to foster pride in the history of the Jewish people.  Naya will examine major accusations waged against the Jewish people and the State of Israel, discuss the history and modern-day manifestations of antisemitism, share how it is appearing in schools, and what we as parents can do to effectively confront it.

Naya's Bio:

Naya Lekht is a scholar on contemporary antisemitism and works with the Jewish community to foster pride in the history of the Jewish people. Naya received her PhD in Russian Literature from UCLA where she wrote her dissertation on Holocaust literature in the Soviet Union. In 2018, Naya was a scholar-in-residence at Oxford University through the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism (ISGAP). During her tenure as a lecturer at UCLA and Cal State Long Beach, Naya taught courses on Russian Literature, Soviet History, the Holocaust, and Soviet-Jewish Literature. A passionate educator and curriculum developer, in 2019 Naya joined as Director of Education at Club Z, a Zionist youth movement. Under her leadership, she developed a curriculum on Jewish peoplehood, Zionism, and Advocacy that is currently being used across the nation. Naya has been published numerously in academic and popular journals, magazines, and newspapers including The American Spectator, Jewish News Syndicate (JNS), White Rose Magazine, Jerusalem Post, The American Thinker, and The Algemeiner. In addition to educating and developing Zionist curriculum, she is working on a book, tentatively titled, Notes from the Diaspora: Reclaiming Zionist Education in our Times.
