Must-Know Purim Hebrew Terms with Rhonna Rogol

Wednesday, March 1, 2023 8 Adar 5783

6:45 PM - 7:45 PM

During this session we will explore the meanings and derivations of some of the most commonly used Purim holiday words and phrases. Purim will be much more fun (and we are commanded to be happy, after all!) when we know the meanings and derivations of the key vocabulary for this raucous holiday. Come find out if Hamantaschen really means Haman’s ears (you might be surprised and even a little shocked) and where the word Gragger originated from. What’s a Megillah, what’s cool about Esther’s name and do we send Mishloach Manot or Shalach Manos, or both? Maybe most important, what does Purim itself mean? Come hear the whole shpiel and share your own thoughts and questions. No prior knowledge of Hebrew or even the alphabet is necessary. The only pre-requisites are a love of learning new things and an inquisitive mind.
