Explore with our CBJ cohort, who devoted a year to the topic, the skills necessary to stay connected to each other – especially those with whom we disagree – while holding onto and sharing our own points of view regarding Israel. Workshop led by members of the Year of Civil Discourse Group. In Classroom 8 (school wing, several rooms down, on the left).

    2. Meditation with Yeshaya Ballon. We will focus on High Holy Day themes through guided meditation. In the Beit Midrash (the back portion of the chapel).

    3. “From Judgment to Compassion” with Rabbi Paul Shleffar. During the High Holy Days we see in the tone of the liturgy a progression of the Divine Countenance from stern judgment toward love and forgiveness. The Chassidic Master known as the Rizhiner Rebbe, in reply to the question, ‘When will the Messiah come,’ answered, “When we learn not to judge others, but only judge ourselves, and favorably. . . .” Our Sages teach that every Jewish holiday season has a special spiritual energy that we are to master. For the High Holy Days, it is the task of moving from a JUDGMENTAL and critical stance toward our fellow human beings and replacing this energy with the quality of COMPASSION. During this session we will explore these ideas both experientially and through text study. In the Beit Mifgash (the old conference room).
