Breaking Bread

Since 1998, Congregation Beth Jacob has participated in Breaking Bread, a program for feeding needy people at the First Presbyterian Church in Palo Alto.  First Presbyterian is just one local community of faith partnering with InnVision to provide hot meals to those in need.   Every five weeks, Beth Jacob volunteers cook, serve and clean up dinner for about 70 people.

WHEN DO WE NEED HELP?

  • August 19

  • September 23

  • October 28

  • December 2

You are welcome to come once in a while or every week.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

Volunteers work in two shifts of 4-5 people each.

The first shift is for Set-Up and Cooking.  This is from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.

The second shift is for Serving and Clean-Up.  This is from 4:45 - 6:15 p.m.

Over time, we have developed a real camaraderie, and we truly enjoy working together to give something back to our community.  We know many of our "clients" by name and enjoy greeting them when we see them on the street.

WHO CAN DO THIS MITZVAH?

Breaking Bread is a great community service opportunity for adults, or parents and their middle-school and high-school age children.  A parent must accompany any child, and young children are not allowed as preparation often involves knives in large commercial kitchen, etc.
